International Day of Yoga

June 21 was proclaimed the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations in December 2014, adopting a resolution by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The UN General Assembly calls on all states to observe the day in order to raise awareness of "the benefits of practising yoga."

"Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being," said Modi.

In the same spirit, the International Sivananda centres have been teaching yoga as a lifestyle for the last 60 years in 50 different centres and Ashrams worldwide.
Swami Vishnudevananda, the founder of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres, was a pioneer in using yoga as a tool for individual and world peace.

The Sivananda Yoga Centres in Europe are offering special activities on this day. Everyone is welcome to drop by to learn about yoga or to deepen their own practice.
