Breathing exercises for beginners
There are three basic types of breathing
Clavicular breathing (shallow), thoracic breathing (medium) and abdominal breathing (deep). The full yogic breathing combines all three types of breathing, beginning with a deep abdominal inhalation and drawing the breath upwards through the intercostal (chest) and clavicular (collar bone) areas
Learning the full yogic breathing step by step while lying in the corpse pose (Savasana)
Always inhale and exhale through the nose
Diaphragmatic breathing:
- Inhale – abdomen expands outwards
- Exhale – abdomen contracts
Then gradually breathe into the abdomen, continuing into your chest and up to your clavicles. The inhalation will expand the ribcage and lift the collar bones
